Consultation with Brian Shilhavy
Brian Shilhavy is the founder and owner of Healthy Traditions, Inc. originally incorporated as Tropical Traditions, Inc. in 2002, an ecommerce food business that is now in its 22nd year.
He is also the Managing Editor, Founder and owner of Health Impact News (and associated websites in the Health Impact News network through Sophia Media, LLC).
Brian Shilhavy has a BA in Bible and Greek from Moody Bible Institute, and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University. His diverse career has included teaching English at the University level around the world, and working as a translator from Turkish to English in a humanitarian relief role after the first Gulf War in Iraq when Kurdish refugees flooded Southern Turkey from Northern Iraq.
Brian developed Computer Aided English Language software in the early 1990s while teaching at King Faud University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and had some of his work published in journals.
Returning to the U.S. he became a Microsoft Certified Trainer and Systems Engineer in the late 1990s.
Shilhavy was instrumental in changing the American public’s perception on saturated fats, and coconut oil in particular, in the early 2000s, as he introduced a “virgin coconut oil” into the U.S. market at a time when coconut oil could not be found in any of the major grocery chains. Living with his family in the Philippines for several years, he was the first one to export a “virgin coconut oil” from the Philippines to the U.S. in 2002.
Fighting against prejudices and the government USDA’s dietary guidelines that stated saturated fats and coconut oil were not healthy (which they claim today), Shilhavy successfully endured threats and warnings by the FDA to continue selling coconut oil, and today one cannot walk into a store selling foods and not find multiple choices for coconut oil, and other coconut-derived foods.
As an innovator in the food industry, Shilhavy continued to develop new products that were not generally available in the U.S. market. After nearly two years of research and development, for example, Shilhavy developed the nations’ first poultry feed that was free of soybeans, to reflect a consumer need to purchase eggs and chickens that did not contain soy isoflavones.
In 2014 after testing several of Tropical Traditions’ certified organic grains and learning that they tested positive for the herbicide glyphosate, he implemented a strict testing protocol to ensure that all of the products sold from the Tropical Traditions website exceeded USDA Certified Organic standards, and were tested to be free from Glyphosate contamination.
The company was eventually renamed to Healthy Traditions to reflect the more diversified product selections besides just coconut products.
As an editor and journalist, Shilhavy has published health information that is seldom found in the corporate media which is heavily influenced by the pharmaceutical industry, and started Health Impact News in 2011.
In 2014 Shilhavy was the first to use the term “medical kidnapping” and start documenting cases of families losing their children to corrupt Child Protective Services (CPS) agencies across the nation that were often removing children from good parents and good homes simply based on the testimony of “medical experts” who disagreed with parents. MedicalKidnap.com was established to feature these kinds of stories so that the parents would have a voice to tell their side of the story.
Brian Shilhavy is now available as a consultant for limited amounts of time. The first hour must be purchased ahead of time for Mr. Shilhavy to look at the proposed project needing consultation, and after reviewing the proposed project Mr. Shilhavy will either refund the first two hours and decline the consultation, or setup an initial 1-hour conference to discuss the project.
