Ancient Grain Oat Groats - 5 Gallon Life Latch® Screw Top Pail - 35 lb. (limit of 1)
Ancient Grain Oat Groats - 5 Gallon Life Latch® Screw Top Pail - 35 lb. – Oats were one of the last cereal grains to be domesticated by early farmers in the Fertile Crescent, making them younger than the wheats and barley. They were considered mostly as an afterthought, used primarily as animal feed, until they made it to the damp, cool regions of Europe. There, they were prized because they thrived in the cool, moist conditions and became a staple for the people of those regions.
Oat groats are a nutritional powerhouse being rich in protein, fiber, some B vitamins, along with numerous minerals, and being especially high in manganese.
Oat groats can be used in numerous ways including rolling for oatmeal, grinding for flour, used whole for breakfast or in soups, and cracked for steel-cut oats.
In the past, we have tried to provide oat groats that have been grown in North America, but due to the vast contamination of certified organic grains in the US and Canada, by the known carcinogen, glyphosate, we had to open our search to other areas of the world. Our oat groats are grown on an organic farm in Italy and a sample from our batch tested to be free of glyphosate.
We package the oat groats in a 5 Gallon Life Latch® Screw Top Pail that has a moisture resistant, air-tight seal that will protect your stored grain for many years to come.
