Our black cumin seeds are premium, high-quality seeds and sourced from Turkey. Black cumin seeds are native to Turkey, and some of the finest quality black cumin seeds come from that area. Black cumin seeds have been uncovered in Turkey from the ancient Hittite empire, dating back to 1650 BC. The seeds are rich in nutrients and antioxidants.

We of course test the seeds for glyphosate and none was found in our sample.

Nigella sativa is known by various other names such as: black caraway, fennel flower, nutmeg flower, Roman coriander, kaljeera, habbat al-barakah, and kalonji, among others.

References to black cumin seeds date back thousands of years. They are mentioned in the Bible in the book of Isaiah in chapter 28, verses 25 and 27.

Black cumin seeds were found in the tomb of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, who ruled Egypt from 1333 BC to 1324 BC, and they were found in a pilgrim flask in Turkey from the ancient Hittite empire, dating from around 1650 BC. The Islamic prophet is reported to have stated that black cumin seeds are "the remedy for all diseases but death."

Due to FDA laws, we cannot make any health claims for black seeds as we would be guilty of selling an "unapproved drug." A search of PubMed, the database of the US National Library of Medicine (funded by your tax dollars) and the National Institutes of Health, however, will find over 1000 peer-reviewed studies on nigella sativa. The seeds and oil have been used in Middle Eastern cuisine for thousands of years.

Black seeds can be used in various ways to enhance a culinary experience. The flavor and aroma can be described as having notes of onion, oregano, and black pepper. The seeds are often found in Middle Eastern, North African, and Indian cuisines as a spice.

There are many ways to enhance the flavor of foods with black seeds by adding them to salads, homemade breads or crackers, sprinkled on eggs, bagels, or even yogurt.

Black seeds are also often used whole, crushed, or ground and then taken with a spoonful of honey, as a tonic.

We package the black seeds in a 2 lb. resealable pouch and a convenient 7 oz. glass spice jar with a shaker lid.
