Heirloom Turkey Red Wheat
Glyphosate-Tested Heirloom Turkey Hard Red Winter Wheat
Turkey Hard Red Winter Wheat is an heirloom variety of wheat first brought to America in the 1870s by Mennonites immigrating from Russia. Once the predominant wheat of Kansas, it was eventually replaced with modern higher-yielding varieties of wheat by the 1940s. It is quite rare today, not used in commercial agriculture, but mostly grown by small-scale family farmers.
Turkey Red Wheat has a unique, rich, and complex flavor that is said to be missing from most modern varieties of wheat. It has excellent flavor, excellent baking qualities, and good quality protein. Learn more about the history of Turkey Hard Red Winter Wheat here.
